Health secretary Nick Hancock has confirmed on Tuesday that the construction workers and their families with the covid-19 symptoms will now have access to the coronavirus testing as per the UK testing capacity as the country’s testing capacity increased to 73,000 tests per day.
Currently there are 41 drive through testing centres available and 48 more to be added by the end of this week. Besides the drive through testing centres, another 70 mobile test centres which will be operated by the army will be ready by the end of this week.
Nick Hancock has stated that he was under pressure from the construction union United to give coronavirus testing access to the construction workers as many of them kept working amid lockdown.
