The ambitious £ 3 billion project, one of the largest brownfield sites in the UK, is set to redefine the town’s skyline. In collaboration with the City of York Council and the National Railway Museum, the redevelopment plans will bring about a transformation, creating 2,500 new homes and an expansive one million sq ft of commercial, retail, and hospitality space. This project is a testament to the ongoing improvements to York Railway Station and the National Railway Museum, underscoring its significance for the local community.
The development of one million square feet of new offices, restaurants, and recreational space behind the York station will serve as a major employment hub in northern England and demonstrate a strong commitment to the environment. York Central will be enriched with a new 17-acre park, with 50% of the site dedicated to green areas, providing a much-needed breathing space for the city’s residents.
Works are already underway on site, paving the way for the development, which currently totals £135m of infrastructure works, delivering 2km of new roads, including bus lanes, segregated footpaths and cycleways, and 2 new bridges. Mellan Property and Arlington Real Estate are targeting plan submission for the end of the year.
