Atkins and Gleeds will be monitoring costs and programmes as the project proceeds through construction, while HS2 appointed the firms to take a lead role. Atkins has secured the £125m programme control role in HS2’s new Commercial Delivery and Controls Framework.

The £104.5m commercial management role will be handled by Gleeds Cost Management system. HS2 will award work packages during the eight-year framework duration to Atkins and Gleeds.  Multiple organisation-wide workstreams will be worked through requirements identified.

The award follows the Oakervee review which warned last year with a considerable risk factor. The appointment of these firms took place after Oakervee said that costs would rise to the current estimates of £80bn to £88bn to another 20% making it £106bn.

Atkins will support programme planning, baseline management, reporting and risk management. Besides, the project management was also being alarmed by Oakervee. Alongside, it is anticipated that work package durations may range from a number of months up to several years.
