A supply chain program will be held by Highways England on briefing day this month. The event will have detailed plans for its new Smart Motorway Alliance. Under a new alliance set-up with three key contractors and consultants, the roads agency hopes to work on some previous stretches of the programme that contain cost-overruns which have afflicted.

£4.5bn worth works will be taken up to deliver the future smart motorway programme by the selected three contractor partners. Balfour Beatty will be working on the southern area while a joint venture of BAM Nuttall/Morgan Sindall is appointed for the midlands. Besides, Costain will take up works related to the northern region.

Jacobs Engineering UK and Consultants WSP UK are design partners for the alliance. Fluor is said to deliver the smart motorway production management partner role. Flour will be leading and coordinating with the alliance partners. 24 August (Monday) will be the day for witnessing online briefing from highways England about the alliance.
