Historic campus at Aberdeen gets green signal for revamp

King College campus will see a renovated design in the Aberdeen College’s infrastructure after an approval for the same. Aberdeen City Council has approved for the enhancement of facilities in King’s Quarter, which is in the immediate vicinity of King’s College.

The creation of an atrium is subject in the plan that will create a central forum space with connections to surrounding buildings.  Improvements to the interiors of several areas including the Book Stack, Old Senate Wing, and Cromwell Tower are added to the renovation scheme.

The available space in King’s Quarter is currently underused, and the development will revive redundant buildings in the heart of the campus. This will help safeguard their future use with new teaching and learning space.

The renovation developments will accommodate both increased student numbers and provide more flexibility for teaching. The approval comes as part of multi-million-pound ambitions to revitalise King’s College campus.

Besides, the relocation of the University’s Business School to a new single-site home on the site of the currently dormant Johnston Halls also already received planning approval.  A new Science Teaching Hub at the University located off St Machar Drive is already well advanced and scheduled to open next year.
