A milestone of two office towers demolition outside the Euston station is noted with the HS2 London terminus reaching for the new preparations of construction. The Costain Skanska joint venture (CSJV) has completed two years worth of demolition work.
These 1970s towers are now brought to ground level and Mace Dragados joint venture (MDJV) will take on the new works as the main contractor. This new JV will start demolition works of the basement below in preparation for the new HS2 station construction works.
The buildings were encapsulated within an acoustic wrap to enable the demolition which will be carried out. This is to contain noise and dust while excavators with breaking and munching attachments were then lifted to the roof using the site tower crane.
Later, they worked down the building demolishing floor by floor. Reinforced concrete in more than 35,000 tonnes of quantity were demolished and processed on site. This diverts 99.75% of waste from landfill and can be reused on the HS2 Euston scheme.
