Southampton will soon witness an all-through school at St Mark’s Church. This new school building worth £40m works is already started by Morgan Sindall Construction. This city’s first all-through school will offer primary and secondary education on the same site.
A three-storey building being constructed in 9,211 sq m area will house 56 classrooms for approximately 900 plus pupils. The construction comprises administration and staff rooms along with offices.
The design showcases the development of separate primary and secondary teaching spaces. The plan also includes the library, dining and kitchen areas, and sharing of the special education needs provision.
The main phase works by Morgan Sindall are broken on the ground after carrying out stage one design and enabling work over the last few months. The main project is under construction after the temporary buildings have been erected for use by primary aged pupils.
Southampton City Council has awarded the contract to Morgan Sindall through the Pagabo national framework for major construction works. Construction work is expected to be finished by autumn 2022 while the council has agreed a budget of £39.8m, including contingencies.
